The Legacy Awards, supported by The Julia Child Foundation, were established by Les Dames d'Escoffier International in 2009 with one goal in mind:to provide targeted mentorship opportunities for professional women in the food, fine beverage and hospitality industries. The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts generously supports our Legacy Awards program.
A Week with a Dame Each Legacy Award winner earns a weeklong experience to work alongside an accomplished member of LDEI at her business in the United States, Canada, Mexico, or the United Kingdom. The competition is open to professional women from those countries who are not Dames but have a minimum of four years experience working in the culinary industry.
In 2016 six experiences were awarded by distinguished members of LDEI in four categories: culinary; food/wine journalism; wine; and farm-to-table.
These six awards included the chance to help with harvest and production at one of Canada's best-known makers of fine preserves and wine, learn about the winery and wine tourism industries at Washington state's oldest winery, and experience the art of fine chocolate making at an award-winning chocolatier in London, England.
